The three chiks and Cheryleedo emerged champions in the womens- fencing (foil) team event yesterday, beating Vietnam 44 - 38 for Singapore fencing-s first gold medal in 15 years.

The young team of Ruth "chik" Ng, Serene "chik" Ser, Tay Yu Ling "chik" and "Cherylee-do" Wong, beat tournament favourites Philippines and Vietnam en route to Singapore's first SEA games team gold medal in the foil event.

"We were very focused, it was one bout after another. We were just trying to maintain the difference," said Tay, 18, a former Hwa-Chong junior college student. A proud member of 7A zoo as well :)
